There are currently 6 residency sites available. All sites accept one resident except Moose Pharmacy, which takes two residents. The residency’s mission is to develop creative and innovative community pharmacy practice leaders equipped to meet the challenges presented by the rapidly changing health-care system. The focus of the residency includes: developing medication therapy management skills through providing direct patient care, implementing disease state management programs, promoting and administering immunizations, and educating patients and healthcare practitioners regarding appropriate drug therapy regimens. Other resident responsibilities include: precepting pharmacy students at the practice site, teaching in a classroom setting at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, attending monthly resident seminars, staffing requirements, and conducting a practice-based research project. Elective experiences are available and vary depending on the interest of the resident. A teaching certificate program is also available to interested candidates.

Site Special Features:   There are 4 Kerr Drug practice sites that are part of a regional community pharmacy chain in North Carolina. The program also offers sites at two independent pharmacies; Moose Pharmacy and Carolina Apothecary. All sites serve as advanced and introductory community pharmacy practice experiences. Each site offers similar patient care services; however, the individual sites differ in patient populations served and the focus of services that are provided. Some of the clinical services offered among the sites include: ADA recognized diabetes education program, specialty compounding services, administering immunizations, health and wellness programs, consulting pharmacy services, and point of care testing.
