Special Program Features:
Our program is aimed at preparing our graduates to pass the PTCB examination and work in today's market successfully. We provide the 600 hours needed for state licensure in controlled, intense learning environments. In addition to the experiential training sites in community pharmacies and hospital pharmacies, sites in long-term care (2) and mental health facilities (1) are available. We also offer a program called Technical Competency Area in Pharmacy Technician: didactic hours are 405 contact/9 credits and laboratory is 90 contact/2 credits available to technicians who have a permit and want to return to college and complete the pharmacy technician clinical didactic portion of the program. We moved into a new facility in January 2005 with updated labs and classrooms. Financial aid available to qualified students.
Acceptance Requirements:
High School diploma or GED equivalency, 18 years old, WorkKeys, academic rating forms, transcript, interview and typing proficiency.
General Location Training Sites:
In greater Shreveport/Bossier City area.
Special Requirements:
Random Drug Screens; evening rotations; TB skin test; Rubella titer; immunizations; physical; proof of medical insurance; and a Louisiana Board of Pharmacy technician training permit.
Academic Degree:
Associate of Applied Science in Pharmacy Technology: course work includes that for the certificate program plus: 270 contact hours/6 credits in English and 135 contact hours/3 credits each in humanities electives, psychology, college algebra, and specific science electives.
Program Comment:
Completion of our "certificate" program results in a Technical Diploma in Pharmacy Technology. We also offer a program called a Technical Competency Area in Pharmacy Technology.
