Special Program Features:
The Pharmacy Technician Program curriculum is an intensive nine-month sequence of instruction. Registered pharmacy technicians are in great demand nationwide, throughout California, and especially in the Bay Area. Students who successfully complete the program will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement and are qualified to apply to the California State Board of Pharmacy for registration as a pharmacy technician. The Pharmacy Technology Program is dedicated to the integration of clinical, didactic, and laboratory objectives to successfully develop student's cognitive, psychomotor, and effective domains necessary for the safe and efficient preparation of pharmaceuticals in hospital and retail pharmacy settings. Students graduating will meet the educational standards for registration with the state of California and be prepared for taking the PTCB examination for national certification. A two-year expanded Pharmacy Technician Program is also available which includes general education instruction. This course sequence leads to an Associate in Science Degree in Pharmacy Technology, and offers the student the ability to transfer to a four-year program or to enter the job market with additional technical and theoretical background.
Acceptance Requirements:
1. High school diploma or GED certificate; 2. Completion of high school or college biology; 3. Completion of high school or college algebra; 4. Minimum GPA of 2.5; 5. Adequate skills in reading and writing; and 6. Ability to follow oral instructions. Keyboard skills highly recommended.
General Location Training Sites:
Throughout Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Mateo counties in the San Francisco Bay area.
Special Requirements:
Some sites require verification of immunization. CPR Training and Background Check.
Academic Degree:
Certificate upon completion of program. A.S. degree upon completion of 90 units, including general education required courses.
Additional Requirements:
Students must be able to qualify for California State Board registration. Therefore, students should be familiar with board requirements as to pharmacy technician application to the State. Failure to maintain 70% average will result in termination from the program.
