Residency Special Features:   

This residency program is designed to develop community-based, pharmacist leaders with the ability to provide patient-centered pharmaceutical care as an integral member of the health care team. Additionally, pharmacists completing this program will be prepared for PGY2 specialty residencies, pharmacy precepting roles and adjunct faculty positions. This program provides the resident with opportunities to improve medication therapy in the following settings: internal and ambulatory medicine, cardiology, critical care, community, geriatrics, oncology, administration and research. Residents are required to present an ACPE-accredited CE program to healthcare professionals with our hospital system. The resident will complete a research project with a goal to improve pharmaceutical care within our institution as well as participating in medication use evaluations, formulary reviews and membership on multidisciplinary committees. The resident also has the opportunity to work collaboratively with health care providers at Open Door Clinic to serve our community's indigent population. Precepting experience is gained while co-precepting students from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Wingate University. As a member of the Cone Health System, our PGY1 residents have the ability to enter the early commitment process for PGY2 residency positions within Cone Health.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   PharmD; Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School or College of Pharmacy; eligibility for North Carolina licensure required. Three letters of recommendation, curriculum vitae and a high degree of professional motivation.
