Residency Special Features:   The PGY1 residency program at Henry Ford Hospital will develop the resident into a well-rounded practitioner. Henry Ford Hospital is a 802 bed, tertiary care, teaching hospital and is part of the Henry Ford Health System. The PGY1 at Henry Ford is part of a large training program (16 residents/year, 1 fellow/year) offering a variety of rotation options. Rotations are available in internal medicine, general cardiology, infectious disease, nephrology, SICU, MICU, cardiac ICU, cardiothoracic ICU, neurology ICU, solid organ transplant (kidney, liver, heart, lung, pancrease), drug information/medication safety, inpatient oncology, antimicrobial stewardship, pharmacy administration, transition of care, inpatient anticoagulation, outcomes/IT and nutrition support. Clinic experiences include hemodialysis, anticoagulation, HIV, oncology, internal medicine and general diabetes. While the resident can develop strong clinical skills in a variety of practice settings, areas of strength include infectious disease, critical care, cardiology, solid organ transplant and oncology.

Site Special Features:   Didactic and clinical teaching opportunities available as part of an optional teaching certificate program offered in conjunction with Wayne State University. Residents will present an ACPE-accredited CE program and participate in a weekly pharmacy grand rounds seminar. Residents will also participate in a longitudinal clinical on-call program. All residents will develop and implement a longitudinal project. Research and publication opportunities are available in a variety of areas, especially cardiology, ID, practice based/medication safety research. Residents attend an annual residency trip, the ASHP Midyear Meeting and the Great Lakes Residency Conference. The department also trains PGY2 residents in critical care and infectious disease and a fellow in infectious disease.
