Residency Special Features:   

The PSJMC PGY-1 residency program is designed to provide the resident with advanced training and learning experiences in pharmacy practice that build upon those obtained throughout their pharmacy career. The resident will be working with our clinical pharmacy staff to build their knowledge base and improve their clinical skills. Rotations in Critical Care (Medical/Surgical ICU, Cardiovascular ICU, Neuro ICU), Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, Nutritional Support, Ambulatory Care (Longitudinal), Drug Information (Longitudinal), Practice Management (Longitudinal) and Service Commitment (Longitudinal) are required. Elective Rotations include: Advanced Critical Care, Advanced Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, as well as additional learning experiences offered at alternate Presence Health locations. The resident will also have the opportunity to participate in a teaching certificate program and precept PharmD students. A formal research project is required.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   

Graduation from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy; eligible for Illinois licensure by August 31st; US citizenship or Equivalent; Curriculum vitae; Official college transcripts; Letter of intent/Personal Objective Summary - a brief description of your interests, future goals and aspirations, and why you believe that the PSJMC PGY-1 Residency will benefit you in attaining them; Three letters of recommendation - two letters MUST be from a present/former preceptor and the remaining letter may be from: present/former preceptor, college instructor, employer, or healthcare professional who can attest to your pharmaceutical practice abilities.

PSJMC has a medical staff of more than 700 physicians representing over 50 medical specialties and employs over 2,300 professional, technical and support personnel. Designated as a primary Stroke Center, PSJMC's Neuroscience Institute provides 24/7 neurosurgeons, neurologists, and neuroendovascular interventionalists. The Medical Center also offers family-centered obstetrics and a Level II Trauma Center. PSJMC has been serving Joliet, Will County, and the surrounding area for more than 125 years. The Pharmacy department provides 24-hour centralized unit dose distribution and I.V. admixture services. These services are enhanced by decentralized coverage and clinical services. Clinical services include pharmacokinetic dosing, drug therapy monitoring, patient education, and continuous quality improvement activities. The pharmacy department also has affiliations with Roosevelt University, Midwestern University, Butler University, Purdue University and St Louis College of Pharmacy.
