Residency Special Features:   The PGY-2 residency in Pain Management and Palliative Care at UW Medicine provides training to develop knowledgeable and skilled practitioners in an area where there is increasing pharmacy need and demand. Through this residency, the resident will work as an integral member of an interdisciplinary team to help provide optimal management of pain and palliative care patients. The resident will receive training to become knowledgeable in various acute and chronic (malignant and non-malignant) pain conditions. There will also be additional rotations for the resident to develop the skills necessary to provide palliative care to patients throughout their illness and at the end-of-life. The resident will be expected to actively participate in the development of leadership skills, education (teaching and precepting) and research. The goal of this program is to cultivate practitioners who are able to provide advanced pharmaceutical care in pain management and palliative care to improve the safety and lives of patients.

Site Special Features:   Rotations will be offered at the University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance which includes Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center. There will also be rotations with outside organizations (i.e. hospice) so the resident may participate and learn in well-established palliative care institutions.
