Residency Special Features:   During fiscal year 2015, the emergency department at Grant Medical Center had over 80,000 visits and 26.8% of patients were admitted. Over 5,800 of those visits to the emergency department were trauma patients and 84% of that population was admitted. Additionally, a total of 655 category 1 trauma alerts were activated. Residents will participate in direct emergent patient care experiences including cardiac arrest, trauma response, stroke alerts, STEMI, sepsis alerts, airway emergencies, and operative emergencies. The resident will gain experience related to emergency medicine such as: disaster preparedness, critical care, pediatrics, trauma, and toxicology. Offsite learning opportunities include pediatric emergency medicine, poison control center, comprehensive stroke center experience, and neurologic intensive care.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Eligibility for licensure in Ohio, completion of a PGY1 residency program, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, and letter of intent. Application materials must be submitted via PhORCAS (Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application).

Site Special Features:   Grant Medical Center is a 640-bed, private, community, non-profit, teaching hospital and part of the multihospital OhioHealth system. It is a Level One Trauma Center which offers a wide range of medical services and specialties, including: surgery, trauma, and critical care while offering a wide range of healthcare services including endocrinology, neurology, OB/GYN, oncology, ophthalmology, spinal rehabilitation, nutrition support, wound care, joint implantation, pain management, rehabilitation, and sports medicine. The department of pharmacy is a recognized leader in contemporary pharmacy practice. It operates two satellites serving the critical care units/operating rooms and oncology/outpatient infusion center. The 24 hour a day unit dose and IV admixture operations is supported by Epic which fully interfaces with other departments. We rely heavily on automation and other technologies for drug distribution including RxOBOT/ConnectRx/MedShelf, Pyxis C-II safe, Pyxis ES Medstations, and Kit Check. Pharmacists are ACLS certified and participate in all Level 1 traumas, code blue situations and other emergent patient care situations. Pharmacists participate on patient care rounds, hospital and system wide committees and performance improvement teams. Pharmacist participation in ambulatory care clinics includes anticoagulation and congestive heart failure management. Our department is continually expanding and optimizing decentralized, clinical, and advanced roles for our pharmacists and technical staff.
