Residency Special Features:   

The primary focus of the residency is to develop competency in the areas of acute patient care, ambulatory patient care, drug information, drug policy development, and pharmacy management. The resident will achieve these goals through participation in the following rotations: inpatient general medicine, ambulatory care, anticoagulation, drug information, and pharmacy management. Opportunities for electives include geriatrics, home-based primary care, long term care, surgery, critical care, specialty clinics, emergency room, hospice/palliative care, infectious disease, oncology, and inpatient and outpatient psychiatry. In addition, completion of a residency project is required.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   

To apply, you must be a US citizen, with PharmD from an ACPE-accredited college, and be licensed or eligible for licensure in any state. Applicants must use PhORCAS to submit a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, academic transcript, and 3 letters of reference using the standard PhORCAS reference form. On-site interview required.

The VA Connecticut (VACT) Healthcare System is an integrated institution with two campus sites located in the central (Newington) and southern (West Haven) parts of the state. The VA is a training site for the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy, University of Saint Joseph College School of Pharmacy, Western New England University College of Pharmacy, as well as the University of Connecticut and Yale University Schools of Medicine. The resident is expected to participate in the training of pharmacy students.
