Residency Special Features:   

The Pharmacy Practice Residency Program at Maine Medical Center is designed to develop skills for the resident to become competent in the provision of pharmaceutical care, education of patients and health care professionals, and in dissemination of accurate drug information. The resident completes rotations with pharmacy department members and is actively involved in pharmacokinetic monitoring, responding to drug information requests, participating in medication utilization evaluations, daily rounding on medical teaching teams and developing patient care plans.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   

Non-US citizens are required to have proper visas allowing for completion of the full year long residency program, PharmD degree from an accredited school of pharmacy, curriculum vitae, letter of intent, copy of college of pharmacy transcripts, and 3 letters of reference submitted via PhORCAS. Additionally, must be eligible for Maine pharmacist licensure.

Maine Medical Center has received national recognition for its programs in Cardiology, Orthopedics, and Pediatrics. The hospital is a major teaching site for Tufts University Medical School. Other programs include Neonatal Intensive Care as well as adult and pediatric kidney transplantation. Computerized physician order entry (CPOE) is used for over 95% of medication orders. The pharmacy is involved in approximately 30 research trials. Portland is a seacoast city offering numerous cultural and recreational activities.
