Residency Special Features:   The PGY1 Pharmacy Resident will participate in a broad range of experiences to promote development as a well-rounded pharmacist. Required learning experiences include Ambulatory Care, Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Critical Care, Immunology (Solid Organ Transplant or Hematology/Oncology) and Practice Management. A variety of electives are offered such as Inpatient Anticoagulation, Heart Failure, Nutrition Support and others. Residents who complete this program will be well prepared for PGY2 Specialized training, or to obtain a position in general pharmacotherapy practice.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   PharmD degree, eligibility for licensure in Massachuesetts, application through PhORCAS, letter of intent, College of Pharmacy transcript (min. GPA 3.0), curriculum vitae, 3 references using the Standard Reference Template in PhORCAS (at least one reference form from a direct patient care preceptor), on-site interview.

Site Special Features:   Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, Burlington, located 20 miles northwest of Boston, encompasses an embulatory care center serving more than 3,000 patients each day and a 335-bed hospital including a 24-hour emergency department, 3 critical care units, and a Level II Trauma Center. Lahey is a teaching hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine and maintains residency and fellowship programs for more than 130 new physicians in multiple subspecialties. The Pharmacy Department has academic affiliations with the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences University and Northeastern University School of Pharmacy. As a research center, Lahey offers patients access to clinical trials of new therapies for diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease and cataracts. Research programs encompass more than 200 clinical trial protocols and participation in numerous national and international studies.
