The Baystate Medical Center PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program purpose is to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. The Baystate Medical Center PGY1 Residency Program is designed in accordance with the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists Accreditation Standard for PGY1 pharmacy residency programs. Residents (over the12 month program) will be expected to meet goals and objectives associated with the four required competency areas of a PGY1 pharmacy residency program. Core learning experiences include Internal Medicine, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Adult Critical Care, Pediatrics, Cardiology, Medication Safety,Emergency Medicine. Elective learning experiences include repeating any core rotation, Academia, Infectious Disease/Consult Service, Pediatric Critical Care, Transitions of Care, Renal Transplant, Hematology/Oncology and Geriatrics. Longitudinal experiences include Inpatient Pharmacy Services, Pharmacy Administration, Ambulatory Clinics and Education/Academia. Our affiliations with MCPHS University (Worcester Campus) and Western New England University will provide classroom teaching experiences as well as opportunities to precept pharmacy students on advanced clinical rotations. A Pharmacy Residents Teaching Seminar Program is offered to our pharmacy residents through cooperation with MCPHS University, Worcester, MA.
