Residency Special Features:   

The pharmacy practice residency program at The Unity Hospital of Rochester consists of required acute patient-care experiences in the areas of internal and critical care medicine, emergency medicine, infectious disease, surgical services and pharmacy practice. Residents will be exposed to centralized and decentralized pharmacy practice, electronic medical records, clinical surveillance, pharmacokinetic dosing, antimicrobial stewardship, renal dose adjustment, intravenous to oral switches, care team rounds, direct patient care, sterile product preparation and computer assisted medication dispensing cabinets. Residents will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team consisting of medical residents, physician assistances, nurse practitioners, physicians and nurses to provide effective patient care. Special Requirements for Acceptance:   

Pharm. D. graduate from an accredited school of pharmacy, United States Citizen or an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States and eligibility for licensure in New York State.

The Unity Hospital of Rochester is 351-bed hospital and is a part of Rochester Regional Health. The hospital has been recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance as a Patient-Centered Medical Home, received the "Gold Seal of Approval" from the Joint Commission, a nationally recognized and NYS Designated Stroke Center and received a certification in Palliative Care. The hospital utilizes Cerner® for its electronic medical record to providing effective patient care. The Unity Hospital of Rochester Department of Pharmacy operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide patient care across the whole hospital. The Department of Pharmacy is located on the second floor of the hospital to create an easy access between the pharmacy department and the inpatient patient-care areas. The department has a state of the art IV admixture room meeting USP 797 standards. The pharmacy department uses Aesynt® medication cabinets to dispense medications in majority of its patient care area. All medications are inventoried in an Aesynt® Medication Carousel allowing for easy inventory control and ordering of medication. Theradoc® is utilized by the clinical pharmacist to quickly identify clinical opportunities to intervene in patient care.
