Residency Special Features:   Over the course of the year, residents will gain experience in the management of various solid and hematologic malignancies and will become competent recognizing and managing cancer and treatment related complications.  Since Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is very active in clinical research residents will also become familiar with investigational cancer treatments.  There are many opportunities for the oncology resident to involve themselves in teaching throughout the residency year. Roswell Park is a training site for medical students and residents, as well as oncology fellows. Pharmacy students complete longitudinal rotations at Roswell Park; the residents are integrated in their training, and are expected to precept students on at least one clinical rotation throughout the year.  There are several local schools of pharmacy which provide opportunity for didactic and experiential teaching. Opportunities abound for education o nursing staff and nursing students within the institution.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   The application must possess a Pharm.D. degree and have completed a pharmacy practice residency (PGY1 residency). Licensure in New York state is required.

Site Special Features:   Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is the only facility in Upstate New York to hold the National Cancer Institute designation of "comprehensive cancer center" and is one of 41 such centers in the United States. The institution provides patient care to over 4,400 hospital admissions and over 200,000 outpatient visits per year. Roswell Park is well-known for the strengths of its translational research, multidisciplinary oncology teams, and compassionate staff. Currently the institution has an academic affiliation with State University of New York at Buffalo. Approximately 60% of Roswell Park's 25-acre campus has undergone major renovation or has been newly built since 1998. A new Center for Genetics and Pharmacology opened in Spring 2006, and a satellite infusion center, located in Amherst, NY, accepted patients in Fall of 2006.
