Residency Special Features:   Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC is the practice site for the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency. The integration of resources at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and UPMC offers a challenging yet flexible program where motivated residents ensure the application of safe and effective, evidence-based medicine practices to pediatric patients. Rotations are available in general pediatrics, intensive care units, ambulatory care, infectious disease, neonatal nutrition support, solid organ transplantation, oncology, palliative care, bone marrow transplantation, and drug information. Residents will design a research project, develop and implement drug use initiatives, serve on multidisciplinary committees, participate in journal club, seminar, and grand rounds, and precept pharmacy students. The goal of the residency is to develop future leaders in pediatric pharmacy practice.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Completion of ACPE-accredited doctor of Pharmacy Degree, eligibility for licensure in Pennsylvania, CV, three letters of recommendation, pharmacy school transcript, and onsite interview, letter of intent and a writing sample (school project, publication, abstract, etc.).

Site Special Features:   For more than 120 years, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC has provided care to children of all ages as the only stand-alone pediatric hospital in Western Pennsylvania. Services provided include: oncology, solid organ transplant, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neonatology, nephrology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology. In 2008, Children's Hospital moved into a new 10-acre complex where they provide annual state-of-the-art care to over 13,000 inpatients, 75,000 ER patients, and over 24,000 surgery patients.
