Residency Special Features:   Thank you for your interest in the Department of Pharmacy at Baptist Hospital of Miami. The Department of Pharmacy's mission is to provide our patients and individuals with safe, efficient, and cost effective pharmaceutical care and service excellence with utmost team pride and satisfaction.  This specialized residency in Critical Care is a 12-month training program accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP). The purpose of the program is to develop a well-rounded critical care practitioner and effective clinical instructor who can provide high-level clinical care in a variety of ICU settings and effectively share their knowledge and promote learning among students and other residents. The focus of the residency program is clinical practice, involving experiences with an interdisciplinary critical care team in surgical, neurological and medical ICU environments. The training is coordinated to allow the resident to master each of the disease states established within the ASHP Practice Standards for the PGY2 Residency in Critical Care. Residents will develop skills in managing drug therapy for patients with multiple disease states in the critical care setting, educating students and residents, and participating in clinical research. At the residency completion, PGY2 graduates exit equipped to be fully integrated members of the interdisciplinary critical care team, able to make complex medication recommendations in the acute environment of the critically ill patient population. Graduates are also experienced in research in the critical care environment and excel in their ability to teach other health care professionals. They also acquire the experience necessary to exercise leadership for critical care practice in the health system. The residency program will also equip the graduate with the competencies than enable attainment of board certification in Critical Care.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Candidates for this residency must possess a Pharm.D. degree from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy and Florida licensure; in addition, they must have successfully completed an ASHP accredited PGY-1 pharmacy residency. Applicants are required to submit the following documents: a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, official transcripts, and three letters of recommendation from professional references utilizing standard form required by PhORCAS™.
