NMS code: 115913. This ASHP-accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency program is designed to develop clinical skills essential for a clinical pharmacy specialist and provide a basis to advance to a PGY2. Clinical pharmacy specialists practicing in Sarasota are a critical component of the patient aligned care team (PACT). Pharmacists and residents work intimately with the team in the management of multiple disease states. All clinical pharmacists practicing in Sarasota possess advanced scope of practices. Disease states managed include hyperlipidemia, anticoagulation, diabetes, hypertension, heart failure. In addition, the resident will have the opportunity to teach several group classes. Emphasis is placed on communication and teaching skills, with extensive opportunities for staff development lectures and serving as a preceptor for students. Residents receive certification in BLS; participate in medication-use evaluation, formulary management, P&T and other multidisciplinary committees and complete a practice based project.

The Sarasota VA Primary Care Clinic has been in existence since 1997. It is located in Sarasota, Florida about halfway between Bay Pines and Ft Myers, and only minutes from the beaches. Over 14,000 veterans are enrolled and receive care at the clinic. We provide comprehensive primary care to our patients and are affiliated with the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System for our acute and specialty care needs. In addition to primary care, the Sarasota VA also offers audiology, gynecology, podiatry, and minor surgical procedures. Sarasota VA is one of seven community-based outpatient clinics (CBOC) and is by far the largest. The pharmacists at the Sarasota VA Primary Care Clinic are affiliated with the University of Florida, LECOM, Nova Southeastern University, Palm Beach Atlantic School of Pharmacy and Mercer College of Pharmacy.
