Residency Special Features:   The Specialized Residency in Oncology at Baptist Hospital of Miami is a 12-month training program accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP). The purpose of the program is to develop a well-rounded oncology practitioner and effective clinical instructor who can provide high-level clinical care in a variety of oncology settings and effectively share their knowledge and promote learning among students and other residents. The focus of this residency program is adult medical oncology, hematology, blood and marrow transplant in an acute and ambulatory care. The training is coordinated to allow the resident to master each of the disease states established within the ASHP Practice Standards for the PGY2 Residency in Oncology. Residents will develop skills in designing and monitoring evidence-based therapeutic regimens for individuals with cancer to ensure optimal outcomes while minimizing adverse drug events. In addition, the resident will develop skills in leadership, research, and teaching through projects, staff education and co-precepting PGY1 pharmacy residents and students. After successful completion of this program, the graduating resident will have the necessary skills and preparation to seek board certification in Oncology and demonstrate clinical and leadership abilities as an Oncology Clinical Specialist.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Candidates for this residency must possess a Pharm.D. degree from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy and Florida licensure; in addition, they must have successfully completed an ASHP accredited PGY-1 pharmacy residency. Applicants are required to submit the following documents: a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, official transcripts, and three letters of recommendation from professional references utilizing standard form required by PhORCAS™.
