Residency Special Features:   Florida Hospital Altamonte is a 388 bed community hospital located in Altamonte Springs, Florida. It is part of an eight-campus health-care system in the greater Orlando area. The PGY1 residency program is designed to develop both the clinical and staffing skills needed to prepare the resident for a career in hospital practice or to advance to a PGY2 program. Our campus had been involved with the system residency program previously, then in 2014 we established the current single-site residency program, which received full ASHP accreditation in 2015.
The residency curriculum offers core rotations in pharmacology, internal medicine, cardiology, critical care, antibiotic stewardship and inpatient glycemic management. Elective rotations include emergency medicine, nutritional support, family medicine, oncology and more. Longitudinal experiences include the resident research project, medication use evaluation, formulary evaluation, medication safety, pharmacy administration and pharmacy staffing. Residents will be sponsored to attend the Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists Annual Meeting, ASHP Midyear, and the Florida Residency Conference.
