Residency Special Features:   The PGY2 Critical Care residency program at St. Vincent's HealthCare is designed to develop a well-rounded independent critical care practitioner who can provide high-level clinical services in a variety of ICU settings. The resident will develop skills in managing drug therapy for patients with multiple disease states in the critical care setting, educating students, residents, and other healthcare professionals, and conducting clinical research. The resident will also gain experiences in therapeutic policy development in the critical care environment. Required rotations include medical intensive care I and II, cardiac intensive care, emergency medicine, parental nutrition, infectious disease, and pharmacy leadership/continuous quality improvement. Sixteen weeks are dedicated to elective rotations which the resident may select among the following practice sites: antibiotic stewardship, clinical research, nephrology, pulmonary, pediatric critical care, toxicology, and trauma. Longitudinal components of the residency program include pharmacy practice, research, and pharmacy leadership/continuous quality improvement. The resident presents formal lectures and in-services including Pharmacy Grand Rounds, pharmacist continuing education at a professional meeting, poster presentation at a national meeting, attends weekly resident meetings, teaches cardiac mock codes, serves on multiple pharmacy and critical care committees, and completes two community service projects.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Currently authorized to work in U.S. (U.S. citizenship or Permanent Resident Alien/Green Card status with a U.S. Social Security Card), curriculum vitae, official transcript from accredited college of pharmacy, completion of PGY1 residency, three letters of recommendation, and eligibility for Florida licensure.

St. Vincent's Medical Center Riverside is the primary site for the residency program and is a 528 bed, including 52 critical care beds, private not-for-profit community hospital in northeast Florida specializing in heart and vascular care, orthopedics, stroke, general surgery, women's services, bariatric services, and adult internal medicine. The facility serves as a cardiac referral center for Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. The pharmacy follows a decentralized model with automated dispensing in all patient care areas, has had a PGY1 pharmacy residency for ten years, and serves as a teaching site for five colleges of pharmacy.
