Residency Special Features:   The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Largo Medical Center is dedicated to providing a personalized residency experience. The goal of Largo Medical Center's Pharmacy Residency Program is to develop a highly qualified independent pharmacy practitioner able to ensure safe and effective medication use, manage their practice, and advance pharmaceutical knowledge through educational and scholarly activities. The program is designed to produce future pharmacy leaders able to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide optimal patient centered medication management in all patients. Residents will participate in research and service activities to further develop problem-solving skills and ability to work with others. Rotations offered include Orientation, Pharmacy Practice, Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Infectious Disease, Pharmacy Administration, Pharmacy Informatics/Formulary Management, Cardiology, Palliative Care/End of Life (Empath), Emergency Medicine, Medication Safety, Nutrition Support, Transplant, Behavioral Health. In addition to concentrated clinical rotations, residents will be involved in the following longitudinal experiences: Major research/service project Manuscript of project (which must be eligible for journal publishing); Poster presentation at ASHP Midyear Meeting; Presentation at Florida Residency Conference; Medication use evaluation; Minimum of three journal clubs and three case presentations; Staffing; Administrative meeting attendance; Committee meeting attendance (Medication Safety, Antimicrobial Stewardship, and Pharmacy & Therapeutics); Educational activities (Student topic discussions and presentations).
