Residency Special Features:   The residency provides the opportunity to develop a broad range of clinical, management, and teaching skills in a variety of settings, with a focus in primary care. The Atlanta VAMC has established clinical pharmacy services in the following: general adult primary care, specialty primary care (including hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hematology/oncology, hepatitis C, HIV, geriatrics, women's wellness, pulmonary, home-based primary care, psychiatry, pain, rheumatology, and anticoagulation), inpatient medicine, drug information, long-term care, and research. The average pharmacy budget for the Atlanta VAMC is $54 million per year.

Site Special Features:   The Atlanta VA Medical Center is located east of Atlanta in Decatur, Georgia with an operating nursing home care unit. The Atlanta VAMC also operates the Austell, Blairsville, Carrollton, East Point, Decatur, Lawrenceville, Newnan, Oakwood, Rome, and Stockbridge community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). The Atlanta VAMC is a tertiary care center that is dedicated to providing both primary and specialized outpatient health care, extended care, acute medical, surgical, intermediate and psychiatric care services with almost all major specialties and subspecialties represented. On average, the Atlanta VAMC has 600,000 outpatient encounters per year. The Atlanta VAMC is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. The Atlanta VAMC has affiliation agreements with 35 colleges and universities involving 21 different training programs.
