Residency Special Features:   The NHPMC PGY2 Emergency Medicine (EM) Pharmacy Residency is an ASHP-pre-candidate, post-graduate year 2 program with a required minimum of 12 months practice experience. The primary focus of the PGY2 program is to develop specialized EM practitioners with an advanced degree of proficiency and expertise in working with interdisciplinary teams to deliver pharmaceutical care. The program is designed to provide focused training in the core aspects of EM with an emphasis on system-wide service line management. Graduates of this program will be prepared to practice as a clinical specialist in EM, implement and/or expand EM services, guide clinical outcomes research, and provide effective education in the clinical setting.

Pharmacy residents in the NHPMC PGY2 EM program have opportunities to customize learning experiences to individual career goals. The resident receives a significant amount of hands-on experience within the pharmacy department and the facility as well as participation with committees and teams. Residents develop teaching skills by teaching PGY1 pharmacy residents, pharmacy students, technicians, pharmacists and other health care professionals outside of the pharmacy department. A teaching certificate program is available if the resident did not complete one during their PGY1 residency.
