Residency Special Features:   Cone Health has been involved in pharmacy residency training since 1968 and maintains a commitment to exceptional clinical pharmacy services. Our year-long program is located in a brand new, state of the art facility where residents are prepared to develop knowledge, clinical skills, and expertise to serve as a pediatric pharmacy specialist on a multi-disciplinary team. This transition will provide a unique experience for the PGY2 pediatric resident to be a part of the combining of neonatal and pediatric services. Residents will train in general pediatrics and a multitude of pediatric subspecialties including pediatric and neonatal intensive care units, emergency medicine, pediatric surgery, and high-risk obstetrics. There are opportunities to rotate through other clinical areas based on interest including a variety of subspecialty ambulatory clinics . Additionally, our relationships with surrounding academic medical centers provide opportunity for specialty rotations not offered at Cone Health. The resident will serve as a preceptor for PGY1 pharmacy residents, pharmacy students, and participate in formal classroom teaching. Conducting practice-based research is required plus development of leadership skills while leading quality improvement initiatives
Site Special Features:   Cone Health is one of the region’s largest and most comprehensive health networks with more than one hundred locations including six hospitals, three ambulatory care centers, three outpatient surgical centers, four urgent care centers, a retirement community, more than seventy-five physician practice sites, and multiple centers of excellence.
This year, the Cone Health pharmacy residency program celebrated its 50th anniversary. Originating with one resident in 1968, the program has grown to include a total of seventeen PGY1 and PGY2 residents.
