Residency Special Features:   The 12 month PGY-1 Residency at the Charles George VA Medical Center strives to develop a pharmacy practitioner who is able to apply the unique skills that pharmacists possess in innovative settings in order to meet health care needs that are not adequately met by other professions. The program consists of core longitudinal rotations in anticoagulation and risk reduction clinics as well as geriatrics in the Community Living Center, management and formulary management. Elective opportunities are available in outpatient mental health, outpatient oncology, transitions of care, academia, hepatitis C and other ambulatory care areas. The residency curriculum is longitudinal, which allows the resident to follow patients throughout the year. The resident will complete an IRB approved research project, MUE. lectures at a SOP, participate in a teaching certificate program and provide quarterly education for primary care staff. The program should prepare residents to accept clinical pharmacy positions in health systems or clinics and function as an autonomous clinical practitioner.
