Residency Special Features:   This PGY1 pharmacy residency is a 12-month residency program designed to develop the resident’s skills and competency in providing patient-centered care as part of multi-disciplinary primary care, specialty care, and inpatient teams. The residency program includes rotations in clinical pharmacist-run anticoagulation, pharmacotherapy, cardiovascular risk reduction, and anemia clinics in the ambulatory care setting. Inpatient rotations in adult medicine, critical care, geriatrics, and medication reconciliation are also included. A more specialized level of experience is provided through elective rotations in endocrinology/DM teaching, rheumatology, HIV/infectious diseases, cardiology, neurology and pain clinics. Inpatient electives in geriatrics, adult medicine, critical care, chemotherapy patient safety, and parenteral nutrition are also available. All rotations have a clinical pharmacist preceptor with an active practice in the specified area. All residents participate in Pharm.D. student instruction, medication use evaluation, journal club, and clinical research project.

The VA Medical Center is a teaching and research institution affiliated with the Medical University of South Carolina. We are a training site for health professionals of many disciplines. We provide clinical rotation sites for pharmacy students from the SC College of Pharmacy, MUSC and USC Campuses, South University College of Pharmacy, Mercer University, University of GA, and University of Florida.
