Residency Special Features:   Our program will provide residents with the opportunity to develop clinical and leadership skills. Customizable focused and longitudinal experiences are available in areas such as adult critical care, internal medicine, infectious diseases, cardiology, neonatology, general pediatrics, family medicine, information technology, drug information, administration, medication safety, ambulatory care, cardiothoracic intensive care, trauma/general surgery and emergency medicine. Residents will also have opportunities to provide education to students and other healthcare professionals.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Applicants must be enrolled in, or a graduate of, an ACPE-accredited pharmacy program and be eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Specific application requirements include:
  • Curriculum vitae (please include completed and anticipated advanced pharmacy practice experience rotations as well as leadership and organizational involvement)
  • Letter of intent specific to Carilion; Please answer the following two questions:
    • Why do you want to complete a PGY1 residency?
    • Why do you want to complete your residency training at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital?
  • Official School of Pharmacy transcript
  • Three references required
    • Individuals must be able to speak to the clinical skills developed during patient care experiences (not classroom experience)
    • All reference writers must provide feedback in 75% of the available comment fields.
    • A separate recommendation letter is not required.
