Residency Special Features:   The pharmacy practice residency provides in-depth experience in many areas of pharmacy practice including nutritional support, internal medicine, clinical pharmacy management, cardiology, hematology/oncology, ambulatory care, critical care, and drug information. Available electives include but are not limited to ambulatory care, antimicrobial stewardship, behavioral health, emergency medicine, geriatrics, long-term acute care, medication safety, nephrology, neonatal intensive care, service medicine, and system management. Residents present formal lectures, in-services, prepare a major project, and participate in the P&T Committee process. As a community teaching hospital, the resident has exposure to numerous grand rounds and educational programs also provided for the medical residents. Each resident will be able to work with and mentor students from several regional schools of pharmacy throughout the residency. The program offers an optional teaching and learning certificate through affiliation with the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Three letters of recommendation, academic transcript, curriculum vitae, Pharm.D. degree from accredited college of pharmacy, and VA licensure within 1 month of start date.

Site Special Features:   Riverside Regional Medical Center (RRMC) is a 450 bed, Level II Regional Trauma Center Hospital located in the beautiful Tidewater area of Virginia. The hospital is part of Riverside Health System, which incorporates seven practice sites that offer learning opportunities in a variety of pharmacy settings. Services offered at RRMC include: cardiac catheterization lab, helicopter transport, neonatal unit, hematology/oncology and medical/surgical intensive care units. The hospital has been recognized among Hospital & Health Network's Most Wired hospitals for 13 consecutive years. Riverside utilizes the Epic EHR platform for complete integration across the health system. The pharmacy is managed by Cardinal Health Pharmacy Solutions which provides national expertise in operation and clinical areas.
