Residency Special Features:   The PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency at WVU Medicine provides the resident with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to become a competent practitioner. The program is a twelve-month, postgraduate training experience composed of 7 core required learning experiences: Medical Intensive Care, Surgical Intensive Care, Pediatric Intensive Care, Trauma, Emergency Medicine, Neurocritical Care and, Cardiac Intensive Care. Additionally, one elective: Bone Marrow Transplant, Heart Failure Service and, Neonatal Intensive Care may be chosen by the resident. The program varies for each resident based upon his or her goals, interests and previous experience. Additional learning experiences include the development and completion of practice-related research project, development of oral and written communication skills through the completion of a Medication-Use Evaluation and ACPE Accredited Continuing Education Presentation, didactic education opportunities through the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy, participation in various departmental committees, and practice in various pharmacy areas throughout the institution.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Pharm.D. degree and completion of an ASHP accredited PGY-1 residency, eligibility for West Virginia licensure, copy of curriculum vitae, college transcript, three letters of recommendation, and letter of interest.

Site Special Features:   WVU Medicine is an acute care tertiary referral center for West Virginia, Western Maryland, Western Pennsylvania, and Eastern Ohio with a Level I trauma center and Level IV NICU; both are one of the very few in the region. The institution serves as the main clinical teaching site for the West Virginia University Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Physical Therapy. Pharmacist care is provided from six decentralized locations through an integrated practice model and utilizing a fully implemented physician order entry system (EPIC).
