Residency Special Features:   The Post Graduate Year One (PGY1) at St. Mary's Medical Center (SMMC) allows residents to tailor rotations to their personal and professional development. Residents have autonomy in managing their own service which includes, but is not limited to pharmacokinetic monitoring, renal dosing adjustment, IV to PO streamlining, anticoagulation management, parenteral nutrition and developing projects to improve care service and pharmacy management. Residents are certified in BLS and ACLS and routinely attend cardiopulmonary arrest situations. Multiple teaching opportunities are provided through the Marshall University Teaching and Learning Certificate program, monthly ACPE-approved continuing education to nursing/pharmacy/medical staff, journal clubs, case presentations, and patient cardiac rehabilitation courses. Residents work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to improve antibiotic stewardship, anticoagulation monitoring, and overall patient care. SMMC is affiliated with West Virginia University, University of Charleston, and Marshall University Schools of Pharmacy.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   General Requirements:
  1. Either:
    1. Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy OR
    2. Anticipated graduation with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy AND evidence of good academic standing
  2. Personal and leadership qualifications for successful completion of a residency program
  3. Eligibility for licensure in the state of West Virginia, preferably eligibility for the early June West Virginia licensure examination

Site Special Features:   SMMC is located in Huntington, the second largest city in West Virginia.
