Residency Special Features:   The PGY 1 Pharmacy Practice Residency provides an organized post-graduate training program in a broad area of pharmacy practice including internal medicine, critical care, nutrition support, neonatology, pediatrics, oncology, anticoagulation, administration and ambulatory care. The Deaconess Health System includes Deaconess Midtown Hospital, Deaconess Gateway Hospital, The Womens Hospital, Deaconess Crosspointe Psychiatric Hospital, and Healthsouth Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital. The program offers lecture opportunities as well as a teaching certificate opportunity. Residents assist as preceptors for pharmacy advance pharmacy practice experience students and provide presentations to medical students and medical residents. Residents present formal lectures, inservices, prepare a major project and assist with multiple medical committee projects to improve pharmaceutical care for patients within the health system. This residency will prepare the pharmacist for any of the following positions: patient care practitioner, adjunct faculty, or PGY2 training in area of choice. Upon completion of the Deaconess Hospital, Inc.  Postgraduate Year One Pharmacy Residency, the resident will function as a skilled, caring, and ethical practitioner in multiple settings. They will be prepared to educate patients, healthcare professionals, and students and will mature professionally by continually monitoring and improving their performance. Finally, the resident will demonstrate professional leadership and possess strong communication skills that will lead to success in any future endeavors.

Residents work every third weekend (8 hour shift Friday evening and Saturday/Sunday) and are only required to work one major holiday (Thanksgiving or Christmas). On call coverage is not required.
Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Must be a graduate of an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy with a Pharm D or equivalent and eligible for licensure in the state of Indiana. We are unable at this time to provide VISA sponsorship. A curriculum vitae, 3 standard letters of recommendation, a letter of intent, an official transcript from the college of pharmacy are required for application as uploads into Phorcas.
