Residency Special Features:   

The PGY-2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency program at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin will provide the resident opportunity to enhance critical care skills in a pediatric acute care hospital while developing competence in direct patient care, practice management, and leadership. Required rotations include general pediatrics, neonatal intensive care, pediatric intensive care, pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant, and longitudinal rotations in committees, precepting, and research. Elective rotations include emergency department/trauma center, toxicology, academia/teaching certificate, solid organ transplant, antimicrobial stewardship, infectious disease, and investigational drug service. PGY-2 pharmacy residents will have the opportunity to participate in health care rounds in all acute care rotations as well as work with Medical College of Wisconsin attending physicians, pediatric medical residents, PGY-1 pharmacy residents, pharmacy students from multiple schools of pharmacy, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and will provide a limited amount of decentralized pharmacy staffing.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   

Licensure in Wisconsin or license eligible, graduate of an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, completion of a PGY-1 pharmacy residency, academic transcripts, curriculum vitae, 3 project examples, and 3 letters of recommendation are required.

Children's Hospital of Wisconsin (CHW) is a 297-bed acute care pediatric teaching hospital in Milwaukee, WI. Children's Hospital of Wisconsin is located on the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center Campus with Froedtert Hospital, the Blood Center of Wisconsin, Children's Research Institute, the Curative Care Network, and is affiliated with the Medical College of Wisconsin. Children's is a tertiary care hospital with a Level 1 trauma center that receives over 10,000 trauma patients per year and is the largest Level 4 NICU in the state of Wisconsin. Children's has an internationally recognized bone marrow transplant program; is a center for heart, liver, and kidney transplantation; and is the only hospital in Wisconsin to be nationally accredited by the Pulmonary Hypertension Association as a Center of Comprehensive Care. The pharmacy department provides centralized distributive services 24 hours a day and has decentralized pharmacists in acute care units, intensive care units, and limited ambulatory clinics.
