Residency Special Features:   

The PGY2 Cardiology Residency will provide residents with the knowledge and experience necessary to practice as pharmacy specialist within cardiac areas. The program covers inpatient ICU and non-ICU patients as well as cardiology patients in an ambulatory setting. The program aims to have the resident provide evidence-based, cost-effective cardiovascular centric pharmacotherapy through direct patient care and educational and scholarly activities. Rotations include critical care cardiology in the coronary care unit (CCU), cardiovascular surgery ICU, acute care cardiology, electrophysiology, corporate cardiology, and cardiology ambulatory care clinic. Residents will be encouraged to complete the teaching certificate through the University of Tennessee if they have not already completed one.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   

Pharm.D. from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy, eligibility for licensure in Tennessee, completion on a PGY1 ASHP accredited or pending accreditation program, and submission of application materials via PhORCAS including CV, academic transcript and 3 letters of recommendation.

Site Special Features:   The PGY2 Cardiology Residency program at TriStar Centennial Medical Center/HCA is partnered with the University of Tennessee College of pharmacy. The resident will have extensive opportunities to work with the University of Tennessee to teach students based in the Nashville campus including their Applied Therapeutics Course. The elective rotation, Corporate Cardiology, allows the resident to work at the HCA corporate office on enterprise wide initiatives and projects that aim to improve cardiovascular related outcomes across many hospitals.
