Residency Special Features:   This program emphasizes training through role models engaged in full-time clinical practice on medical, ICU, psychiatry, ambulatory care, geriatric, surgical, and nutritional support services. Other practice sites include the home based primary care, palliative care, emergency room, and spinal cord injury service. Clinical practice includes providing therapeutic consultations, pharmacokinetic consultations, drug information service, drug-use evaluations, and antibiotic surveillance on an ongoing basis. Residents provide care in ambulatory care programs with general and specialty clinics that allow for continuity of patient care. Residents receive experience in practice management and serve on numerous medical center committees while providing clinical services that are an integral component of patient care. Residents also participate in research opportunities centered around pharmacoeconomic and patient outcomes.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   U.S. Citizenship, pharmacy license, Pharm.D. from accredited College of Pharmacy. Completed PhORCAS application with letter of intent, transcripts, CV and three letters of recommendation.

It is part of the mid-South's largest medical teaching complex providing training for all health care practitioners. This relationship with the College of Pharmacy allows residents the opportunity to develop clinical teaching and lecture skills. VAMC-Memphis is an ideal training site for pharmacy practitioners because of its long-standing clinical pharmacy practice, educational, and research programs.
