Residency Special Features:   During this one year training program, residents are able to individualize their training and will be exposed to a variety of experiences. This allows them to become practitioners competent in solving complex medication related problems. Residents completing the program will be prepared to pursue PGY2 residency programs or clinical positions in a wide variety of settings. This program offers residents the opportunity to focus in either acute care or ambulatory care settings. All residents will complete rotations in inpatient medicine, pediatrics, critical care, ambulatory care, and practice management. Pediatric rotations will be completed at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital, one of the nation’s best children’s hospitals.
The resident’s experience is further enhanced through the completion of a major research project and service commitment. A teaching and learning curriculum with multiple precepting opportunities are available through partnership with University of Iowa College of Pharmacy

*NMS Code 180413 – (Acute Care Setting) This is a PGY1 program in an acute care setting with comprehensive training in a large academic healthcare system. In addition to the required rotations above, residents will select 4-5 elective rotations over 20 elective opportunities in their interest area.
*NMS Code 180421 - (Ambulatory Care Setting) This is a PGY1 program in an ambulatory care setting with comprehensive training in a large academic healthcare center. The focus will be in providing various ambulatory care services in primary care clinics as well as a variety of specialty clinics. In addition to the required rotations above, residents will also complete rotations in the anticoagulation, family medicine, geriatrics, and pharmacotherapy clinics. They will also gain exposure to specialty pharmacy services. Residents in this program are able to early commit to the ASHP accredited PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency within the same institution.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Application materials will be submitted through PhORCAS, please see residency website for required application materials. Doctor of Pharmacy degree from ACPE-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy Program and eligibility for Iowa licensure by start of residency also required.
