Residency Special Features:   The Northeast Iowa Medical Education Foundation (NEIMEF) and Waverly Health Center, in affiliation with the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science offers a Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency. The purpose of this twelve month residency program is primarily to prepare clinical practitioners for practice in family medicine, or other ambulatory care settings. Residents present formal lectures, prepare a major project, and precept pharmacy students. Residents participate in the Pharmacy Educator Preparation Program for Residents (PEPPR) from the University of Iowa. Residents may also participate with industry sponsored clinical research (phase II-IV) protocols at NEIMEF. We utilize a longitudinal curriculum.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   A Doctor of Pharmacy degree and prior clerkship experience in ambulatory care. The applicant must be eligible for licensure in Iowa.

Site Special Features:   The Northeast Iowa Medical Education Foundation (NEIMEF), Allen Memorial Hospital, and Covenant Medical Center in affiliation with the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy offer this position. The pharmacy resident works closely with 18 medical residents at NEIMEF. NEIMEF also has an active clinical research program which also allows pharmacy residents to gain experience with sponsored clinical drug studies. We also have an excellent electronic patient medical record with web based access.
