Residency Special Features:   This residency program offers a comprehensive learning experience that provides the opportunity to develop skills in patient-centered care, practice management and leadership. The pharmacy practice model is a decentralized integrated model allowing the resident to experience the entire continuum of patient care. The resident experience includes: providing educational programs to other health care providers, participating in interdisciplinary care rounds, staffing, patient education, and completing a major research project. Required learning experiences include: cardiology/heart failure, critical care, infectious disease, general medicine, emergency medicine, mental health/addiction medicine and practice management. Longitudinal learning will occur through the completion of three experiences in medication safety, staffing, and a research project.  The resident will build clinical and leadership skills while working collaboratively with other healthcare providers to provide safe and effective patient care.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   

PharmD from an accredited college of pharmacy, MN pharmacist licensure no later than October 1st of the residency year. Applications submitted via PhORCAS must include curriculum vitae, academic transcript from your college of pharmacy, letter of intent and 3 references from various practice settings using the template format.

Site Special Features:   St. Joseph’s Hospital is located in downtown St. Paul and holds the distinction of Minnesota’s first Hospital. It was founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1853. The pharmacy department and new hospital tower were constructed in 2008 and are state of the art facilities that utilize advanced technologies to deliver patient care. St. Joseph's Hospital is part of HealthEast that includes two other acute care hospitals and one long-term acute care hospital. St. Joseph's Pharmacy employs pharmacists and technicians dedicated to patient care and the development of others. The hospital serves as a rotation site for University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy as well as other regional colleges.
