Residency Special Features:   *NMS Code 167513 - Mercy Hospital. Our program allows for exposure to practice at multiple sites (one hospital, on two campuses). We offer flexibility to tailor the program to meet the interests of the resident. Pharmacy practice is decentralized, supported by an EPIC information system and automated dispensing cabinet medication distribution system. Residents interact with numerous pharmacists skilled in clinical practice, management, and leadership. Together, pharmacists and residents work to advance patient care through optimization of medication therapy; medication utilization projects; pharmacokinetics; intensive care and infectious diseases rounds; targeted patient education; ED culture service and medication history collaborative practice agreements; TPN, antibiotic, and anticoagulation dosing and monitoring. Residents gain teaching experience through teaching assistant assignments at the University of Minnesota College of pharmacy and through precepting APPE and IPPE students on rotation at both hospitals. The resident actively participates in hospital-wide committees, such as the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, as well as other activities and improvement initiatives within the pharmacy department. Upon completion of our program, the resident can expect to have gained confidence and competence in clinical practice, communication and leadership skills.
