This PGY1 features learning experiences for a small class of residents at a community non-teaching hospital. Being the only residents on campus, pharmacy residents receive dedicated attention from board certified preceptors and physicians. Residents train to be clinical generalists in a multi-specialty community hospital with a wide variety of services. Required rotations include orientation, service commitment, critical care, ambulatory care, anticoagulation, pharmacy management, surgery, med-surg, cardiology and neurology. Elective rotation opportunities include but are not limited to: repeat of any required rotation, infectious disease, pediatrics and emergency medicine. Residents are highly involved with APPE students, complete a statistics course offered on-site, are encouraged and receive support to participate in a variety of local and national scholarship opportunities (e.g. posters, publications, etc.), participate in hospital and system committees, complete the Residency Education Academy - a teaching and learning curriculum through St. Louis College of Pharmacy, present at a resident seminar series, and complete a research project suitable for publication. Residents are supported through the resident mentor program as they orient to our site and progress in their development as a clinician. Please see website for more details:

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Graduate of an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy, Pharm D preferred, eligible for Missouri licensure, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation (at least one from an employer or supervisor), transcript, and letter of intent which should include: (1) why you want to complete a residency at SSM St. Clare Health Center, (2) what you hope to gain from residency, (3) future career goals, (4) any other information you feel we should consider while reviewing your application.

The hospital opened in 2009 and offers a unique patient-centered design with all private rooms, decentralized nursing stations and bedside medication dispensing systems. The site is a level I stroke center that offers a wide variety of services including oncology with St. Louis CyberKnife, SSM Neurosciences Institute, critical care, an ambulatory care clinic and anticoagulation service, orthopedics, hemodialysis, medical stabilization unit, and a pharmacy outsourcing program. The hospital serves a wide population of patients, both suburban and rural, in the southwest corner of St. Louis county.
