Residency Special Features:   Our PGY-1 residency provides a wide range of clinical experiences with a focus on inpatient acute care. Outcomes of the program are to:
  • Develop well-rounded pharmacy practice knowledge in order to practice independently in a hospital setting.
  • Provide the resident with a strong foundation of skills and experiences to pursue additional training in a PGY-2 program.
  • Demonstrate pharmacy leadership and clinical skills independently or within a multi-disciplinary team.
The residency offers varied learning experience in areas including: critical care, infectious diseases, internal medicine, administration, pediatrics, and emergency medicine. Residents will also partake in pharmacotherapy seminars and grand rounds.

Site Special Features:   CHRISTUS Westover Hills is a community hospital that serves both insured and uninsured patients with a wide variety of acute medical needs. We are uniquely located in greater San Antonio area with a large geriatric and minority patient population. The hospital's emergency department serves greater San Antonio and provides care for approximately 50,000 patients annually. This program is designed to provide a progressive, challenging, and well-rounded pharmacy practice experience. Residents also have the opportunity to train at The Children's Hospital for exposure to pediatric medicine. Furthermore, residents will precept pharmacy students and facilitate pharmacy laboratories affiliated with University of Texas.
