Residency Special Features:   

Houston Methodist Hospital has over 130 ICU beds in 5 distinct ICU settings providing residents with excellent subspecialty learning opportunities. There are 5 clinical core rotations in the coronary, cardiovascular surgery, medical, general surgery and liver, and neurosurgical ICUs. Two months are dedicated to research/management rotations. Two elective rotations can also be selected. The resident can repeat a core ICU rotation or can choose from other internal elective rotations including bone marrow transplant, emergency department, endocrinology, infectious diseases, and solid organ transplant. Potential external elective rotations include academia, neonatal ICU, neuro trauma ICU, nutrition, and shock trauma ICU and are subject to availability.

In addition to writing a manuscript from their major project, PGY2 Critical Care residents submit a separate writing assignment for publication (i.e. case report, therapy review). Residents will have opportunities in serving as a primary responder on the code blue team and as the primary preceptor for one student in the spring. All residents prepare and present a 1 hour ACPE accredited continuing education program. Weekend staffing is every 3 weeks and is clinical staffing in the ICU areas.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   
  • PharmD
  • Completion of PGY1 Pharmacy Residency
  • Texas licensure within 90 days of starting residency
