Residency Special Features:   The Emergency Medicine specialty residency at the University of New Mexico Hospital is designed to provide immersive emergency medicine training in a fast-paced academic Level I Trauma Center. The strong support of pharmacy services by the Department of Emergency Medicine, as well as collaboration with research and teaching provides a strong multidisciplinary team. The resident will receive a volunteer faculty appointment with the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy to lecture and precept students.

UNMH is the state’s only Level I Trauma Center and only academic medical center. The ED sees an average of 90,000 patients a year, and has seven resuscitation/trauma beds, 63 adult beds, and a separate 12 bed pediatric ED. There are three 24 bed adult ICUs: Trauma/Surgical/Burn, Medical/Cardiac, and Neurosurgical; and there is a 20 bed pediatric ICU. UNMH has on on-site Cardiac Cath Lab and Poison & Drug Information Center. It is a Primary Stroke Center and has Advanced Certification in Heart Failure.
