Residency Special Features:   The residency offers rotations in both acute care and ambulatory care patient populations with flexibility in choosing areas of interest by the resident. Required learning experiences (5 weeks in length) include
     * Orientation/Pharmacy Operations Training
     * Ambulatory Care
     * General Internal Medicine
     * Outpatient Anticoagulation
     * Practice Management

Elective experiences include Critical Care, Emergency Department, Home Based Primary Care, Infectious Diseases, Oncology, Pain Management, Palliative Care, Psychiatry, and Spinal Cord Injury.

Longitudinal experiences include Education/Teaching, Journal Club, Medication Use Evaluation, Pharmacy Operations (inpatient and IV room staffing) and the Project Management.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Applicant must be a United States citizen, a graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy, and eligible for licensure in any state. Application requirements (through PhORCAS) include

     5) Three letters of recommendation (At least one letter from a preceptor and  
          one letter from a supervisor)

Applicants invited for an on-site interview will be required to give a platform presentation and submit a writing sample.

Candidates who match must complete a pre-employment physical, and provide proof of hepatitis B vaccination and TB screening prior to hiring.

Site Special Features:   The New Mexico VA Health Care System is comprised of the Raymond. G. Murphy Medical Center and surrounding community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). The Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center is a Level 1 tertiary referral center with a 24-hour Emergency Room located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the heart of the Land of Enchantment. As a teaching institution, the Medical Center is affiliated with the University of New Mexico and the Central New Mexico Community College. The medical center is authorized to operate 310 beds, which include 184 acute hospital beds (including a 26 bed Spinal Cord Injury Center), and an extended care facility. Home care is provided through the Home Based Primary Care program. CBOCs operate in several locations throughout the state.
