Residency Special Features:   The PGY 1 Pharmacy Residency Program builds on the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for post graduate year 2 (PGY 2) pharmacy residency training. The residency supports development of the knowledge, attitude, and skills required to ensure optimal drug therapy outcomes and nurtures the life skills and professionalism required to contribute positively to health care. Experiential areas include: internal medicine, inpatient family practice, critical care, pediatrics, infectious disease, neonatology, cardiology, oncology, nephrology, surgery, outpatient infusion, clinical and operational staffing, clinical or operational administration, medication safety, interdisciplinary medication-use quality improvement, annual and other projects, in-services and working with Family Practice Medical Residents. Teaching opportunity at Idaho State/University of Alaska (ISU/UAA) School of Pharmacy.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Pharm.D. or equivalent experience, eligibility for licensure in Alaska, letter of interest on why a residency is desired, CV, all college transcripts, completed application in Phorcas and online at (available in December). Three references: For applicants who have worked in a hospital or community pharmacy, a minimum of one reference from your supervisor there. If not, but have served in a role related to health care or science, one from that respective supervisor. Also one from an acute care clinical rotation preceptor or another rotation preceptor if you have not had an acute care rotation yet. Reference writers should only complete the Standardized Reference Form on Phorcas (letters are not necessary). The Narrative Comments section of that form is not optional and must be completed.
