Residency Special Features:   The resident will become familiar with this diverse and comprehensive program of pharmacy practice in the nation's largest integrated healthcare organization (IHO). The residency includes experiences in acute and ambulatory care practice, drug information/drug use policy development and practice management. A flexible schedule optimizes experiences of special interest for each resident to choose from including ACLS training, outpatient pharmacy services, asthma management, anticoagulation, hyperlipidemia management, home infusion, infectious diseases, renal, heart failure and diabetes care management. In addition, unique leadership and management skills can be obtained through P&T/medical staff committees, drug utilization management, teaching pharmacy, medical staff, patient and other health professionals, mentoring pharmacy students and professional development training programs. Elective time and off-site opportunities at other Kaiser Permanente facilities are also available for the resident to pursue additional areas of interest.

Site Special Features:   Site Special Features: Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center hosts two residency positions in an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Practice Residency program. The resident will become familiar with this diverse and comprehensive program of pharmacy practice in the nation’s largest integrated healthcare organization (IHO). The residency includes experiences in acute and ambulatory care practice, drug information/drug use policy development and practice management. A flexible schedule optimizes experiences of special interest for each resident to choose from including ACLS training, outpatient pharmacy services, asthma management, anticoagulation, CVD management, home infusion, infectious diseases, renal, heart failure and medication therapy management (MTM) services. The Fontana Medical Center also provides very unique experiences in the acute care practice with specialized pharmacy practices in CCU/ICU, MUE, ED, NICU and OR practice management. Pharmacy residents also actively participate as medication therapy experts in Medicine rounds with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, physician residents, and other healthcare staff. In addition, unique leadership and management skills can be obtained through P&T/medical staff committees, drug utilization management teaching pharmacy, medical staff, patient and other health professionals, mentoring pharmacy students and professional development training programs. In addition, the program allows for possible elective rotations in areas of interest including: mental health, chemical dependency recovery service, oncology, home health, neonatal intensive care, pediatrics, drug education and others. Elective time and off-site opportunities at other Kaiser Permanente facilities are also available for the resident to pursue additional areas of interest. During the year, each resident is required to complete a research project to be presented at Western States Residency Conference in May.
