Residency Special Features:   

The resident will become familiar with this diverse and comprehensive program of pharmacy practice in the Nation's largest non-profit, integrated healthcare organization (IHO). The residency includes core experiences in medication therapy management under physician approved protocols (such as TPN management, Anticoagulation management, NICU rounds and patient management, medication safety, Infectious Disease, ICU/CCU, and Renal drug management), acute care clinical hospital Inpatient Pharmacy practice and medication management systems, various ambulatory care clinical practices, plus experience in drug information/drug use policy, development/physician education, research and development, and practice management. Flexible schedule that optimizes experiences of special interest for each resident to choose additional elective time from any of the core pharmacy services above. Ambulatory Care Clinical Services and Medication Therapy Management in: Oncology, Anticoagulation, Patient Centered Medical Home in Primary Care conducting post-discharge medication reviews, medication management of chronic diseases (such as Asthma/COPD, CAD/CVD, Diabetes, Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia), Home Infusion Therapy, HIV/AIDS/HepC, Nephrology, Heart Failure Management, Post MI medication management, in-home tele-monitoring, MTM for Medicare Part D/Geriatrics, Chronic Pain medication utilization consultation, Transition of Care/Medication Reconciliation, and Outpatient Pharmacy Leadership. In addition, unique leadership and management skills will be obtained through P&T/medical staff committee involvement, drug utilization management, teaching pharmacy staff and medical staff, providing patient education and other health professional development training programs, pharmacy and student training. Elective time at other Kaiser Permanente Southern California facilities are also available for the resident to pursue in additional areas of interest including: Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Practice.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   

Strong professional commitment for patient care and practice excellence. Licensure or eligibility for licensure in California. Pharm.D. required. Must provide by deadline: California Pharmacist Intern License, pharmacy school transcript, three letters of recommendation, letter of intent and curriculum vitae.

Additionally there are 12 medical offices, 14 Outpatient Pharmacies in Riverside County including the Palm Springs/Palm Desert areas, and three sterile compounding licensed infusion pharmacies for Oncology and Specialty medications and clinical drug management pharmacies (a 32 patient chairs/rooms). We offer PGY-2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency with Fontana area, called Inland Empire PG2 Oncology Residency; serving over 1 million members in San Bernardino and Riverside County.
