Residency Special Features:   The pharmacy practice residency is a one-year postgraduate program. The resident will be involved in daily clinic activities including physician intervention, patient education, patient counseling, and medication review. Resident will rotate through primary care and selected specialty clinics (e.g., cholesterol, anticoagulation, Hepatitis C, stroke prevention, women's health). Electives are tailored to the resident's goals and may include infectious disease, psychiatry, critical care, surgical intensive care, geriatrics and cardiology. The resident will also serve as preceptor for pharmacy students from various schools of pharmacy. Other responsibilities include formulary management, drug-use policy development, adverse-drug reporting, drug-use evaluation, and P&T committee, and patient and staff education.

Site Special Features:   The Loma Linda VAMC is a multidisciplinary teaching institution affiliated with the Loma Linda University School of Medicine. The facility is located in San Bernardino County, approximately 45 miles west of Palm Springs. The medical center has a capacity to service approximately 160 general medical and surgical beds, 24 psychiatric beds, and 100 nursing home care beds. Specialized treatment programs include alcohol and drug treatment, a hemodialysis center, hospital-based primary care, medical and surgical intensive care units, a coronary care unit, a pulmonary function laboratory, and a respiratory care center. The pharmacy department provides a wide variety of both inpatient and outpatient services. A large, full-service health sciences library and computer resource service are available. Select seminars, conferences, and inhouse lectures will be open for resident attendance.
