Residency Special Features:   A hospital residency program in a 354-bed community medical center with a 35 bed psychiatric hospital. Core rotations include experience in pharmacy practice, internal medicine, cardiology, infectious diseases, ambulatory care, pharmacokinetics, and nutritional support. Longitudinal rotations include administration, drug information, pharmacy and therapeutics committee, and medication safety. The resident will be given experience in comprehensive pharmacy services during the 12-month program. The resident will pursue a major project over the year, which will be a topic for conference presentation and be submitted for publication or presentation.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Eligibility for California licensure, Curriculum Vitae, letter of intent/essay, official transcripts, three written letters of recommendation from health professionals who can attest to the candidate’s abilities and aptitudes. The standard ASHP recommendation form may be submitted as an adjunct to a written letter or recommendation, but should not be sent in lieu of a written letter.

Site Special Features:   The medical center is community based and is the center locally for cardiac procedures and regional cancer services. The pharmacy department operates three patient-focused satellite pharmacies with clinical services including TPN, antibiotic and target drug monitoring, and pharmacokinetics as well as teaching pharmacy students. St. Joseph's Medical Center, as part of a large regional health system, provides integrated pharmacy services to patients across the continuum of care. The program offers unique longer rotation experiences.
