Residency Special Features:   *NMS Code 131913 - A PGY1 pharmacy residency with an acute care pharmacy focus at Keck Hospital of UCS that is designed to train a resident to become an excellent clinical practitioner and teacher. NMS Code 131921 – a PGY1 pharmacy residency with an acute care pharmacy focus at LAC/USC Medical Center. Clinical practice and teaching are emphasized in all rotations, which include inpatient internal medicine, surgery, pulmonary medicine, intensive care, transplant service, liver service, drug information, ambulatory care, and electives. The resident will be oriented to all aspects of pharmacy operations at the LAC/USC Medical Center and Keck Hospital of USC. In addition, there are weekend coverages assigned to the resident during the year. Also, the resident has classroom teaching responsibilities to second-and-third year pharmacy students of the USC School of Pharmacy.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy, eligibility for licensure in California, curriculum vitae, letter of intent, pharmacy school transcripts and three letters of recommendation.

Site Special Features:   Training sites include the USC School of Pharmacy, Keck Hospital of USC and the LAC/USC Medical Center. Most of the clinical activities will occur at the General Hospital, a 600-bed teaching, county hospital, and the Keck Hospital of USC , a 401-bed, private tertiary care hospital, also located on the health science campus. Ambulatory care will occur at either the Edward R. Roybal Health Center or the LAC+USC Medical Center. Academic course work and seminars at the USC School of Pharmacy include physical assessment, teaching skills, emergency medicine, research methods, administration and management, and drug information systems. A research project is required. The project must be submitted for publication. ACLS training is provided.
