Residency Special Features:   * NMS Code 206613 - ambulatory care settings at USC; NMS Code 206621 - ambulatory care/psychiatric pharmacy focus. This program prepares residents to implement or advance an outpatient comprehensive medication management program in any setting including community / safety net clinics, government healthcare organizations, private medical groups, hospital-based clinics, health maintenance organizations, outpatient pharmacies, and remote telehealth programs by aligning organization needs with appropriate clinical pharmacy services and resources. High-risk adult and geriatric patients with all common chronic illnesses are managed by pharmacists under collaborative practice agreements.Teaching responsibilities include precepting IPPE and APPE students, leading weekly small group discussions with 2nd and 3rd year pharmacy students, supervision of volunteer students at community events, and the option of pursuing a teaching certificate. Residents are taught weekly through scheduled seminars on topics such as physical assessment, teaching skills, and research design and methodology.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Doctor of Pharmacy degree, from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy, eligibility for licensure in California, curriculum vitae, letter of intent, pharmacy school transcripts, and three letters of recommendation.

Training occurs at various ambulatory care sites including the Keck Medical Center of USC, Edward R. Roybal Comprehensive Health Care Center, LAC + USC Medical Center, Davita HealthCare Partners, various safety net clinics throughout Los Angeles and Orange County. The patient population is primarily adult and geriatric, but may include some pediatrics. Course work and seminars available at the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy include physical assessment, teaching skills, advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), research methods, administration and management, and drug.
